CHILDREN

Welcome, children and families! Here at Faith, we strive to support and enrich your child’s growing up through faith development in a loving community. Children are empowered to study Bible, contribute to serving others, and to participate in the life of faith! As a medium size congregation, we have wonderful opportunity to design flexible and customized educational ministry to meet the needs of our children, and to change and grow with them.

Please join us! Here are some highlights of our ministry with and for children:

Nursery: we have a wonderful nursery director, Ms. Tinna, to give our youngest children consistent loving care during worship service and church events.

Preschool: Our wonderful weekday preschool is available for babies through pre-K children, from 9:00-1:00 during the school year. Please see the link to the preschool website.

Sunday School: Between services on Sunday mornings at 9:30, children ages 3 through 5th grades participate in classes organized by age. Besides learning Bible, the children have wonderful adult teachers, who become important role models in their lives. We are able to be very flexible in our Sunday School and adapt to the needs of each group of children and their interests and learning styles, while still providing the solid Bible knowledge and development of critical thinking and spiritual depth characteristic of the Reformed tradition.

Arts: We love drama, music, film-making, puppetry, dance, and visual arts and often find opportunities for the children to explore learning through the arts in Sunday School, by being part of worship leadership, or for a seasonal special program.

Worship: Children are invited and encouraged to participate in worship in ways appropriate and meaningful to each child’s personality and development. The 8:30 Interactive Worship service is very informal and accommodates children who need to move about. Children also have many opportunities to read scripture, collect offering, and provide music or drama for this service. Worship bags are provided at both the 8:30 and 10:30 services, and we all enjoy a children’s message at both services, which helps children of all ages think about our lessons of the day!

Fellowship and Service: Opportunities are spread throughout the year for children to develop a sense of community and service. Events are often family oriented and support the efforts of parents and grandparents to bring their children up in vibrant faith. The Faith youth often provide seasonal parties, projects, and outings to include the younger children. We do all kinds of things, like: plays, dance programs, Easter egg hunts, scouting support, helping with food drives and other mission projects, going out to lunch, a day at Camp Maranatha, retreats, and more!

Vacation Bible School: We love VBS! Every summer, Faith is transformed into a week-long festival of fun and learning! Lots of friends and neighbors join us for the whirl of Bible story, music, science, games, crafts, and missions that is VBS. The children LOVE this week of learning and developing great relationships with each other, the youth, and adult leaders. In 2014, our VBS theme is Workshop of Wonders! Come be part of the WOW week, June 23-27, 2014. There will be a registration link on our homepage in May.

Summer Camp: Our presbytery operates Camp Maranatha in Scotsboro, Alabama, about an hour’s pleasant country drive from the church. Camp Maranatha offers a fantastic summer camp program for children and youth, featuring camps with a variety of styles and interests. Please check it out at maranathaccc.com. A bus provides transport from Huntsville to day camp, and often leaves from our parking lot. Overnight camps are also offered. Faith kids rave about Maranatha!
